We are currently seeking a highly experienced full-time Managing Editor to work across all areas of the business, worldwide account portfolio. This is a senior position within an international editorial company that specialises in the production of first-class programme information in terms of accuracy and editorial quality. The job holder will have extensive experience operating in an editorial, TV-related environment and have a proven track record in setting and maintaining high editorial standards as well as managing staff and creating new business. The job-holder will be a self-starter, with the ability to work alone with a high degree of self-motivation as well as being an effective team leader / manager and team player. Core to the job is: a passion for digital television and editorial excellence as well as an extensive knowledge of the television information market in the UK and internationally, coupled with a proven track record in establishing and maintaining excellent client relationships. A detailed knowledge of the TV market, including the EPG platforms and latest technological developments and the workings of the TV listings industry at large in the UK and beyond is essential. We are looking for someone who’s hungry for a new challenge, and who has a minimum of seven years’ experience in a similar role. We want someone who’s cut their teeth in the world of publishing and journalism, someone who can spot a typo from several miles away and someone for whom accuracy, efficiency and time management are mantras. You’ll be fully aware of the essential nature of production plans and deadlines – not just for the press but for clients and TV EPG platforms too – and you’ll be prepared to pull out all the stops to make sure these are always met. Global Listings prides itself on never having missed a single deadline and on exceeding its clients’ expectations. Specifically, you will need to be a highly competent manager and people person as you’ll need to manage and motivate an editorial team to deliver the very best at all times. Ditto: you must be an experienced and capable communicator when it comes to liaising with clients – and be full of ideas of how we can add value to our client base. This is a deadline-driven marketplace and overseeing the production process of client contracts to deadline is a main priority. Specifically you will need to oversee the entire production process from beginning to end, week-in, week-out, and constantly be looking for ways to make our internal processes more efficient: maximising productivity and minimising waste. Your editorial skills must be second to none as you will be responsible for the editorial quality of all English listings schedules and EPGs/Highlights produced by the company. So you must be a first-class writer/editor, be able to turn your hand to any subject and any brief, be it a one-line programme description for an EPG or an in-depth feature/interview. Specifically you will need to ensure that Global Listings’ extensive checking procedures, whereby all schedules, highlights, EPG files, amendments etc pass through a multi-layered checking process prior to being distributed are being adhered to at all times. Above all, you’ll be willing to eat, sleep and breathe our clients’ accounts and ensure that we continue to be the No.1 in everything we do – and that includes having a visionary approach to the company’s growth and future potential. You will be able to work at executive level: alongside the Managing Director and Finance Director. Specifically, you will have commercial acumen and be able to compile strategic business proposals by following client briefs to the letter and / or responding to Tender requests and RFPs or RFIs. Note that these proposals frequently require a quick turnaround: you will need to be able to work at speed while maintaining very high levels of accuracy and creativity. At the same time you will need to ensure that the day-to-day editorial and production requirements of the accounts across the Global Listings portfolio are being fulfilled. You will need to be proactive in creating business opportunities across our existing client base and also in identifying potential new revenue streams, i.e. new clients to whom we can pitch. First-rate communication skills, a highly efficient and organised approach and the ability to focus on detail, while maintaining an eye on the bigger picture and progressing the company vision are all core competencies for this job.
